To Alternians, a psionic is any troll with a mutation in their brain which can manifest into some sort of ability. Such powers can manifest as:
- Communing with wild animals and controlling them - Telekinesis - Speaking with the dead - Energy production - Mind control
Lowblooded trolls are often more likely to be born with psionic mutations (often one or two) and the chance to be hatched with such a mutation becomes considerably rarer the more higherblooded the troll is. It's near impossible for seadwelling trolls, the highest on the hemospectrum, to have such psionic abilities although in contrast their minds have developed mental resistance to psionics which affect the mind or emotions.
The Alternian Empire is well aware of the power psionic trolls can produce and uses them to power their space faring ships. However, while all Helmstrolls are psionics, not all psionics qualify to be Helmstrolls as only specific kinds of mutations are able to power the ships. The most common are psionic trolls which produce energy of some sort, but others are sometimes used if need be (such as telekinetics).
The Psiioniic's title was given to him informally but widely. As the sole psionic troll in Signless' inner circle, it was an easy conclusion to come to. However, has time passed and Signless' rebellion grew stronger, other trolls (often lowblooded) used it in deference of how powerful and varied his psionics were in comparison to most other troll's. While most psionics are only born with one ability, the Psiioniic has a total of five (telekinesis, energy production, concussive blasts, vision twofold, telepathically hearing the dying) and each is extremely powerful.
