- On a fateful night, highblood politics force the factory to shut down temporarily. With a sudden and unexpected amount of free time, he spends some time with his hivemates wandering the city. One of them hints that she's heard of a secret meeting being held by an out of towner. Wary and suspicious, he nonetheless agrees to go along.
- This is the first sermon of Signless' that he ever hears.
- Instead of being inspired or thoughtful at the redblood's message, he instead becomes extremely agitated. It's a very hopeful message to a very hopeless person, and it's grating for that reason.
- First impressions:
- Signless: A mouthy little shithead who's too optimistic and has probably only avoided culling for his great ass
- Disciple: Please stop being attractive and stop pinching his sides.
- Dolorosa: oh god it's a jadeblood what
- His first introduction includes getting into an argument with Signless for longer than he should and swearing that he'll never come back to another meeting.
- He comes back to another meeting. All the meetings he can make. He blames it on Disciple feeding him meat like a stray purrbeast and Signless being so wrong it pains him not to yell at him.
- At these meetings, it is eventually brought up by Disciple that surviving for survival's sake means nothing with the lifespan of lowblooded slaves. The idea that there's really nothing holding him back is a shocking one and he retreats.
- Throughout the perigee, he repeatedly uses his seer powers to see dangerous things and shepherds Signless' group away from them.
- At the end of the perigee, Signless comes to him at his hiveblock to inform him that they'll finally be moving on. He offers to help free him and take him with them on their journey. Resigned to the fact that he'll do horribly one way or another, the psionic accepts his offer.
- As a symbol of his newfound freedom, the slave renames himself as "Artolo Apemis".
- (seriously "mituna captor" for a fucking slave that likely hates the ocean/seadwellers for all the bullshit, hell no)
- He eventually collaborates with the Dolorosa to make a new outfit for him. As a slave, his sign was often regulated to a small patch on his shirt and his blood color was often dismissed as sewage blood. In an effort to reclaim his sense of identity, he made his sign as large and blatant and possible along with his blood color to show he wasn't ashamed of himself.
- Dolorosa's almost physical pain at having to make this outfit is well known and he cannot thank her enough for it
- In the beginning, to help pay for expenses, he began to pass off as a "blind seer" in certain towns once they were far away enough from his homecity.
- It was also in the beginning that he insisted on all of them getting a husktop so that they could keep up with the news and for other reasons. With that in hand, he soon began to experiment on his own and quickly adjusted to the hobby of hacking. He became alarmingly proficient in it, mind having been eager for a challenge for sweeps.
- Since they were often unable to repair any damages, he also became a very good "bullshit" technician, fixing up the husktop or rigging up ones with the bare minimum requiring it to function.
- It was because of this that in the later stages of the rebellion, his skill with computers and hacking into the imperial network was what kept them aware of the Empire's movements and able to avoid them so well for so long.
- He kept his powers a secret from the rest of the group for a long time until they almost ended up getting caught in a landslide. Panicked, he used his psionics on instinct to save their lives only to immediately fall into a dangerous panic afterwards that almost killed Signless when the other approached to try to calm him down. He eventually was brought down from it, and they encouraged him to explore his powers instead of being scared of them.
- As Signless' sermons attracted larger and more varied audiences, he began to act as one of his primary lines of defense- able to react in a wider variety of ways and to more threats than Disciple's claws or Dolorosa's chainsaw. He became known for his vigilance and stoic demeanor when he was so focused on protecting Signless.
- Earned his title both from lowbloods in awe of his power and highbloods to easily identify him as the sole psionic in his group. Embraced his title as a big "fuck you" to the Empire to show that he wasn't afraid of them or what they could do to him (helmsmanship)
- Notable for tearing through hundreds of soldiers during the last clash of the rebellion versus the empire in an attempt to get through and protect the rest of the group.
- While captured and awaiting the public execution for Signless, he attempted to commit suicide multiple times in an attempt so that he wouldn't have to see the fates of his friends. He was not successful any of these times.
- Because of this, he was forced to keep his eyes on the execution by his highblood handlers.
- Yelled at Disciple along with Dolorosa to escape when they saw that the Executor was hesitating in shooting her down.
- Attempted suicide again after being forced into captivity before he became a Helmsman to the point that his caretakers had to restrain him utterly and completely so that he couldn't be remotely successful. 6 bulges were kicked, 15 fingers bitten off, 3 heads butted, and one eye were the casualties in this attempt.
